Yarmouth mayor heading to Washington D.C.

A mayor from our province is heading to Washington, D.C.

Pam Mood of Yarmouth says she’s attending the National League of Cities conference, where municipal officials on both sides of the border will get together.

Mood says tariffs will be a big point of discussion, and it’s important they understand each other.

“We have been friends forever. We’re neighbours, we don’t want this any more than they do, I think. It’s hurting both sides. We have a lot of shared values,” said Mood.

She is part of a group representing the Federation of Canadian municipalities.

Mood adds that she’s on the same page as Premier Tim Houston and the federal government in their messaging.

“We want Americans to come here. We have the link with the ferry from Yarmouth to Maine, so many people have family across the way. We still want them to come here and enjoy who we are and what we offer.”
