Lobster Crawl kicks off to celebrate Nova Scotia’s largest export

The Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl is back, celebrating the peak of lobster season along the South Shore throughout February.

The festival kicks off February 2 with Lucy the Lobster’s annual prediction in Barrington. Instead of a groundhog, the South Shore has its own tradition—Lucy emerges from the ocean to forecast either an early spring or six more weeks of winter.

Another festival highlight is the Lobster Roll Off, where 12 restaurants from across the South Shore compete for the title of best lobster roll. Attendees get to sample the entries while judges determine the winner.

The Lobster Crawl features a range of seafood-focused events, including a lobster treasure hunt, makers markets, and the Tail End Reception at the end of the month. Events take place from Barrington—known as the Lobster Capital of Canada—to Peggy’s Cove, with local businesses and restaurants offering lobster-themed specials.

For a full schedule, visitors can check the official festival listings and plan their February around Nova Scotia’s signature seafood.
