Old bikes have been refurbished and are ready to be given back to those in need in Queens County.
This is the first year for the Bike Exchange in the municipality, modeling the success of existing programs in Lunenburg and Yarmouth counties.
Thirteen bikes have been repaired and spruced up by Liverpool Adventure Outfitters.
Physical Activity Coordinator, Norm Amirault, says the program is another way for people to be active.
“We’re just looking at it as a piece of the puzzle of how to get folks to be more active and hopefully lead an active, healthy lifestyle.”
Amirault says he hopes this will help young people in the community.
“We will try to match folks with an appropriately sized bike. We, obviously, have to do that because we don’t want folks to walk away with a bike that is too big or too small as they might get injured.”
He adds, people can continue to donate bikes but only 13 will be given out this year.
The bikes will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis beginning at 9 a.m Saturday at the Liverpool Curling Club.
