A volunteer organization continues to help improve lives in Lunenburg County.
The United Way was able to provide over $122,000 to 21 groups during their current allocation period.
And since 2006, that number sits at over $1.7-million towards youth, families, women, seniors, and people living in and on the edge of poverty.
Coordinator Michael Graves says they could be doing much more.
“Just to let you know that if every worker in Lunenburg County donated just 15 cents a day, so going from like a large coffee to a medium or a medium to a small, we would raise $1.2-million every year.”
Graves says they also offer a payroll deduction plan to people who are looking to give back.
Money raised by The United Way of Lunenburg County stays here and is invested back into local programs.
“Because it’s money raised by The United Way, it has to stay in Lunenburg County. We can’t send it to Halifax, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver. So, you can imagine the programs that we’re funding now they could be a lot larger and we could introduce new programs.”
