A mask has different meanings to different people. Needed to protect everyone’s health, a fashion statement, or evidence of a government cover up, what do you think when wearing a mask?
I have been hearing some folks grumbling about how the CoVid-19 is a government conspiracy, refusing to comply with the rules around the pandemic, like social distancing, wearing masks, etc. Terms like “PLANdemic” and “SHEEPle” are being tossed around and suggestions of those that are complying having blinders on and not being open minded.
COVID-19 conspiracy theories creating a ‘public health crisis’ in Canada
I guess those things could be said about me. I have been and plan to continue doing anything I can to prevent any spread of this virus that little is known about. I am so happy that I live in the Atlantic Bubble and am very proud that our numbers have been so low. I like to think that I am part of the majority, feeling this way, but maybe that is not the case. Back in May the country was split 50/50 with half thinking there was some kind of cover-up around the pandemic. Is this still the case?

I have heard arguments, mainly around the wearing of masks, that doctors had initially said don’t wear them. Now since it IS recommended to WEAR A MASK, this is presented as proof of government control. But it is science, that means discoveries are always being made and things change. What you know today becomes wrong tomorrow. Go back 500 years ago, everyone KNOWS the world is flat. If we go back to Victorian England, one of the best wedding gifts was “full extraction” where all the teeth were removed so dentures could be worn because it was KNOWN that dental work was expensive and just too much trouble to deal with. AND in the 1800’s everyone KNOWS the best options for anesthetic are Ether and Chloroform. Science is always changing as new facts become known and I highly doubt that wearing a mask will poison your blood from breathing carbon dioxide, if that was the case, most medical professionals would have been sick for years.
Maybe I am wrong in my way of thinking, but anything I can do to protect friends and my family, I will do it. All I ask is that everyone is respectful as we get through these uncertain times and hopefully soon we get to enjoy events with others again, like the old days.
Signed, the guy wearing a mask,
Jonathan
