With the lights up and Christmas movies popping up on TV, kitchens are now starting to heat up with Christmas baking. I always found from now to Christmas was torture as Mom would be baking holiday treats on a regular basis with the rule that they had to be saved for the holidays. I may have sneaked a few shortbreads and chocolate balls from time to time, haha.

Let’s start with pie. You know something is good when there are two days to celebrate it. Today is the second “Apple Pie Day” on the calendar of odd celebrations

The first apple pie recipe printed was in England in 1381. The list of ingredients included good apples, good spices, figs, raisins, pears, saffron and cofyn, a type of pastry crust.

Now if the goal is to have a treat that is delicious and easy to make, with a name that will turn heads, this is the one for you. In the church cookbooks I have seen it named “layered chocolate dessert”, but the actual name “Sex in a Pan” often creates more interest.
