Lunenburg Man Faces 90 Days For Sexual Assault of a Minor

A South Shore man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail earlier this week for sexual assault of a minor.

A 61-year-old Lunenburg man, whose identity is protected under a publication ban to keep from identifying the victim, was found guilty on Monday for the sexual assault of his former partner’s daughter.

In the court records, it says the assault took place sometime between 2012 and 2015 and that the victim at the time was between 8 and 12 years old.

The record says the victim would wake up at night to find the man kneeling over her and touching her bottom and breast area both over and under her clothes, while stating he loved her.

Details in the record state the man would volunteer to spend more time with the victim over her brother, often insisting to take her to bed at night.

The record also contained over a years worth of daily letters the man wrote to the victim which detailed everything they did that day, from taking her to school to leaving her gifts while she slept.

Both the letters and assaults stopped in August 2015, when the victim’s mother separated from the man.

The man will face 90 days in jail to be served on weekends, 18 months probation and will be on the sex offender registry for 10 years.

He is to follow conditions which include staying within the province while on probation, no contact with the victim, and no contact or extended stays with females under 16.
