Non-Profit Sector Recognized With Online Celebration, Awards

The non-profit sector were celebrated for their work during a Day of Recognition event today.

Hosted by the province, united way, the Bhayana Family Foundation and the Community Sector Council of Nova Scotia, a virtual event was held to honour the sector.

Twenty nonprofit organizations and professionals were awarded with the Bhayana Family Foundation Invisible Champions Award.

Leo Glavine, minister responsible for the sector, said those non-profit organizations are vital to helping the individuals, families and communities they work with prosper, especially as of late.

“You have demonstrated innovative thinking and new ways of working, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

This is the fourth year for the awards, which were expanded province wide this year. The Tri-County Women’s Centre, which operates in Shelburne, Yarmouth and Digby were one of the recipients of the award.

Premier Stephen McNeil said non-profit organizations have always been essential in improving the quality of life for those in need in Nova Scotia.

“This is also a time where we are more aware of our history with our African nova Scotian and Indigenous communities,” he said.

“The not-for-profit sector is a leader in addressing these challenging times and systemic inequalities.”
