Event Coordinators, Training Facility Fined As Health Regulation Enforcement Strengthens

An organization in Kings is one of the latest to feel the brunt of the second wave’s heightened law enforcement.

RCMP say a complaint of a gathering of nearly 100 people at an event in Kingston resulted in a hefty $7,500 fine over the weekend.

Police say many of those in attendance at the event were not wearing masks or social distancing.

Upon reviewing the COVID-19 restrictions surrounding events with the coordinator, they say a summary offence ticket for Failing to comply with the Health Protection Act was given.

Law enforcement of the act has risen after more COVID-19 cases began to pop up last month, leading to a number of charges to both individuals and businesses.

Those include a Bedford training facility, which was also charged with violating the act on Monday.

Under the recently imposed restrictions on the HRM, gyms and other training facilities were to be shut down as of November 26th.

Police say they did not fine the customers, as responding officers determined those running the business were responsible.

Neither the organization nor the facility were named in either incident.
