Flower Close To Returning To Mooseheads Lineup

A Lunenburg hockey player is almost ready to return to action with the Halifax Mooseheads.

Walter Flower has been sidelined since mid-November with an MCL strain in his left knee.

The 17 year-old is back on the ice competing in practice with his teammates.

General Manager Cam Russell says Flower has been missed.

“The leg is getting stronger. He looked really good at practice Thursday morning from what I’ve heard and he’s getting closer. We’re hoping to have him back in the lineup, positive side of thinking, hopefully by the end of next week.”

Flower has played in 21 games this season, registering a goal and five assists.

He says it takes time to come back from a knee injury.

“There is a lot of off-ice rehab, there is a lot of work with a therapist and then there is getting back to game shape and working on battle drills and competing and making sure the confidence is coming along.”

Russell says Flower moves and shoots the puck like a pro, skates extremely well and is physical.

Meanwhile, the herd traded Captain Taylor Ford and a fourth round pick to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies for a first round pick in 2018.

The trade gives the Mooseheads three first round picks in the 2018 Draft.

The Mooseheads host the Moncton Wildcats tonight at 7pm.
