Concern Raised In Legislature About CSI Causeway

Argyle-Barrington MLA Chris d’Entremont posed questions to the Minister of Transportation Lloyd Hines.

d’Entremont says while he believes the 68-year-old structure is safe, there is an issue that should be looked into.

“There’s concern from Cape Sable Island residents, anybody who travels on the causeway, can see a bit of a dip. it’s closer to the island than the mainland, but there’s concern there might be some erosion.”

The minister responded that no concerns had been brought to his attention but he would investigate.

d’Entremont says while the minister might not have answers right now, it’s his understanding that the department is currently looking at ways to map what’s going on in the causeway using scanning or X-ray technology.

The Cape Sable Island Causeway was built in 1949 and is the only way on or off the island.
