New Municipal Expense Rules No Problem For Mahone Bay

The Province is taking steps to ensure local governments are more open about how they spend resident’s money.

Amendments to the Municipal Government Act would see clearer posting of individual and hospitality expense online and limit when alcohol could be purchased.

It would also require municipalities to develop a code of conduct and tighten their financial controls.

The Mayor of Mahone Bay David Devenne says they adopted those policies a year ago.

He says it’s good for the public to be informed.

“They know exactly what kinds of expenses councillors are incurring. It also sets guidelines for the councillors themselves.”

The amendments to the Municipal Government Act are making their way through the legislature now.
