Branch LaHave Woman Charged With Arson After Weekend Fire

A Lunenburg County woman has been charged with arson following a weekend house fire in Branch LaHave.

Thirty-four year-old Tasha Wentzell was arraigned in Bridgewater provincial court today.

She has been sent for a 30-day psychiatric assessment at the East Coast Forensic Hospital in Dartmouth to determine her fitness to stand trial as well as her criminal responsibility.

She is scheduled to return to court on November 15.

Firefighters from Northfield were called to a home near the intersection of Lower Branch Road and Oakes Road before midnight Saturday.

Other departments paged to the scene include Bridgewater, Midville, Oakhill, New Germany, Hebbville, and Conquerall Bank.

The blaze caused significant damage to the home.
