Abandoned ships continue to be a strain on communities both financially and asthetically across the country.
MP Bernadette Jordan says looking to the federal government for a hand-out is only exacerbating the problem.
“If we leave it all up to the federal government, it’s going to increase the problem. People are going to just say ‘if we abandon our vessel, the federal government is going to look after it.’ When do we hold the people who own the vessels accountable?”
The ‘Farley Mowat’ has been sitting in Shelburne harbour for almost two years and there are two more derelict ships in the Port of Bridgewater.
A public meeting will be held Tuesday night at the Shelburne Community Centre at 7pm.
