Lead In The Wells Of Two Homes In The Lake George Area

Lead turned up in the wells of two homes in the Lake George area.

The Town of Yarmouth, bought the land from Ibbitson Sawmill and spread compost over it with plans to seed it.

Chair of the Yarmouth water utility, Ken Langille says tests were done after complaints of garbage surfaced from the compost.

“One well tested fairly high, I understand, higher than the norm. And one was very close to the norm, but still above the norm,” said Langille.

Langille adds the contamination is likely from chemicals used in lumber-making rather than trash-laiden compost.

A public meeting to discuss next steps will be held Tuesday at 7pm at the Lake George Fire Hall.
