The Town of Shelburne will explore electronic voting for the first time.
Council chose to move ahead with providing the service for advanced voting days during this fall’s municipal elections.
Mayor Karen Mattatall says it could increase voter turnout.
“And, it certainly has the potential to do that because people can vote from the comfort of their home; they can vote on a computer, they can vote on their phone.”
Voter turnout in Shelburne was among the highest in the province in 2012 at almost 67 per cent.
The cost of adding e-voting in the town is about $8,000.
The town will still offer paper ballot voting on election day, October 15.
