Grant Supports Seniors in Lunenburg County

The safety and security of seniors in Lunenburg County just got a boost by the provincial government.

South Shore Safe Communities received a $20,000 grant for the Lunenburg County senior safety program.

Chair David Walker says it will help the senior safety coordinator offer programs and services.

“Putting on senior police academy, programs in fraud awareness and in 55 alive mature driving.”

The program helps seniors living with dementia, or those who are experiencing elder abuse.

Coordinator Chris Acomb says seniors are reporting instances of crime including door-to-door and phone scams.

The money is also expected to help provide educational sessions to help seniors prevent those crimes from happening.
