Teachers Calling On University Presidents To Drop NSTU Lawsuit

The Nova Scotia Teachers Union say their rights are being attacked.

Early this week, the presidents of Acadia, Universite Sainte Anne, Mount Saint Vincent, St. Francis Xavier and Cape Breton Universities filed a lawsuit against the NSTU on behalf of students in the Teacher’s Education programs.

Teachers have refused to supervise training teachers under the work to rule job action.

The Association of Nova Scotia University Teachers has come to the NSTU’s defence.

President of ANSUT Mark Lamoureux calls the action an intrusion by a third party into the union’s collective bargaining process.

Lamoureux says there is nothing illegal in what the NSTU is doing.

He calls on the university presidents drop the lawsuit and work out their differences with the union at the negotiating table.
