More than 50 students got the chance Wednesday to check out classes at NSCC in Bridgewater.
In the past 12 years, Skills Canada has helped thousands of high school students explore a career in the trades.
Youth got to choose from six different subjects including diesel repair, natural resources and electrical construction.
Sixteen year old Zach Whynot thought carpentry might be a good fit.
“I’ve always been interested in heritage carpentry,” he says, “because my dad usually does some basic carpentry around the yard and stuff, and I enjoy helping him out.”
Whynot says without a program like this he wouldn’t have known he could study carpentry.
Organizers say that’s exactly what their trying to achieve.
