The Municipality of Chester has a new fire service agreement.
A 10-year contract with the Village of Chester was set to run out at the end of the month.
Warden Allen Webber says negotiations took around two years.
“I don’t believe the village commission has exactly signed it yet,” he says, “but we’ve authorized the signing of the contract, so I anticipate they will also.”
As time was winding down some were concerned an agreement wouldn’t be reached on time.
However, Warden Allen Webber says he doesn’t think they were in jeopardy.
“I had enough confidence that if we got that close to that deadline we would extended the contract.”
He says one of the things holding them up was that some people who live in the effected communities wanted to have a say about how their tax money is being spent.
A new committee is being formed so they will have an opportunity to be heard.
Webber says, once it’s signed, the new agreement won’t expire until 2026.
