An international sporting event in Shelburne has received funding from the federal government.
The 2019 Albacore International Championship Regatta will be held at the Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club from August 24-30.
The feds contributed nearly $70,000 to help with infrastructure upgrades to the Muir-Cox Building and to expand the floating dock facilities.
Lead Organizer of the Host Committee, Henry Pedro, says the event will attract people from North America and Europe.
“We’re really quite excited,” he said.
“Fifty teams with two people per boat and they will bring family and friends. They will stay awhile hopefully and enjoy what Nova Scotia and the South Shore have to offer.”
The sailing championship involves 15-foot long dinghies.
The Town of Shelburne is also providing $40,000 and the Municipality of Shelburne is giving $1,000 to support the event.
