Big Brothers Big Sisters Looking For Mentors

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the South Shore is in need of more mentors.

Acting Executive Director, Jennifer Meister, says there are two types of programs where people can get involved.

There is the traditional big brother-big sister program or the in-school mentorship.

Meister says their waitlist continues to grow.

“Our official number is around 40 young people who are waiting for mentors,” she said.

“But I know that there are probably dozens, if not, hundreds more young people that could use someone.”

Meister says depending which program participants choose they could be asked to commit an hour a week or one day a week for a year.

She adds kids typically get matched up with mentors who have similar interests.

Some kids have been waiting more than five years for a mentor.

Meister says anyone interested should contact Big Brothers Big Sisters of the South Shore at (902) 543-4435 or by email at southshore@bigbrothersbigsisters.ca .
