Latest CRA Poll Shows Tight Race In NS

The latest polling numbers for Nova Scotia’s main political parties are out.

Corporate Research Associates says there’s a tightening between the governing Liberals and the opposition Progressive Conservatives.

CRA’s Margaret Chapman tells Acadia News there seem to be two main issues driving the change.

“Healthcare is really, by a long shot, the top issue that is top of mind for Nova Scotians but I think the change in leadership with the PC Party has had an effect as well and it really seems like it is a much more competitive environment for the party in power now”

Chapman says there was very little difference between urban and rural results in the poll, conducted between January 31 and February 21.

She says there was one very noticeable difference.

“Seems to be more of a Mainland-Cape Breton gap than there is a rural-urban gap. We see, really, parallels in points of view between Halifax and the rest of Mainland and then Cape Breton feels a little differently. There’s more undecided voters”

The Liberals still lead with 37%, down one point, followed by the PCs at 34%, up from 31 and the NDP saw no change in their numbers.

The numbers are based on a sample of 803 adult Nova Scotians, conducted from January 31 to February 21.
