A cemetery in New Germany was severely damaged after a car went off the road and crashed through it last night. Police say between 15 and 20 headstones were damaged at the St. John’s Anglican Church cemetery on Highway 10 in Lunenburg County. It’s believed the person driving may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Corporal Ted Mugford says police are trying to contact family members of those headstones which were damaged. Damage estimates could be upwards of $20,000 to $30,000. However, officials with the church say they will be going through the driver’s insurance for repairs. There were four people in the vehicle, no injuries reported. It’s still being looked into, but no charges have been laid.
