Energy Company Investigating Cause Of Wind Turbine Fire

A wind turbine in Pubnico was destroyed after it caught fire yesterday.

Photos on social media showed the turbine’s nacelle and blades on fire late in the afternoon.

The wind farm the turbine is located on is operated by NextEra Energy.

Steve Stengel is the spokesperson for the company.

“The fire is out, the area is secured, there were no injuries as a result of the fire in the wind turbine,” says Stengel.

West Pubnico Fire Department responded to the blaze but Chief Gordon Amiro says they couldn’t really do anything except be on hand.

“There’s nothing we could do because they’re so up high in the air and we couldn’t get nowhere near because when the blades turn, they’re so long, you don’t want to get nowhere neaer them,” he says.

NextEra is looking into the cause of the fire.
