CVFD Recognizes Acts of Bravery With New Award

Three Chester-area residents have been recognized for their bravery.

The Chester Volunteer Fire Department named Jon Dimick, Nathan Horne and Roy Parsons as recipients of their inaugural Golden Heart award.

It recognizes outstanding acts of bravery by the general public that save human life and property.

The incidents occurred at two different structure fires last summer.

Dimick noticed a fire at a house on Victoria Street in Chester while driving home.

Using his car horn, he woke the occupants, allowing them to escape safely, and called 911.

Horne and Parsons determined their neighbour was not in her East Chester home when a fire broke out in the kitchen.

They called 911 and limited the fire’s growth using a garden hose until firefighters arrived.

Horne and Parsons were on hand to receive their awards during a meeting earlier this month. Dimick will receive his award at a later date.

Chester Fire Chief Everett Hiltz says the three “showed true courage and deep concern for their neighbours and the community.”
