The province hopes changes for booking provincial park campsites will eliminate last season’s problems.
In 2018 the government apologized after “technical issues” with their online reservation system prevented people from booking highly coveted campsites.
Tara Crandlemere, the manager of Parks and Recreation for the Department of Lands and Forestry says for the first time, reservations will open over two days.
“We’ve looked at other jurisdictions and seen what was the best practices, we talked with our service providers and, to mitigate that this doesn’t happen again, we decided to do a staggered opening.”
Parks in the Western and South Shore regions will accept reservations starting Wednesday, April 3.
Crandlemere says day-use parks open on May 17.
“And they go to October 14th. Our camping parks, there’s a few that open on the long weekend in May and we also have some that open the end of May and the first week of June.”
Nova Scotia’s provincial parks had a record number of visitors in 2018 with a 13 per cent increase over 2017.
