Radon Kits available at Local Libraries

Radon detection kits are now available at public libraries across Nova Scotia.

They can be borrowed for four weeks at a time.

The program launched at the beginning of the month and already Chief Librarian of South Shore Public Libraries Troy Myers sees a need for more.

“Because the demand has just astounding, they just hit the street [Wedneday], and there is already a big hold list for them.”

Myers says they have two detectors on site and will have five by December.

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking, according to The Lung Association Nova Scotia.

It only becomes an issue after long-term exposure.
