Mahone Bay Museum Trying To Put Names To Faces

Mahone Bay Museum is trying to put names to faces.

A woman dropped off 900 photos she found in her grandparents house from the previous owners Theresa and Marie Best.

Manager and Curator Lyne Allain says they assume majority of those in the photos are local because Theresa and Marie were local photographers.

She also says they’re interested in the backgrounds of the photos because it gives an idea of the time it was taken.

“Often they’re taking their photo in front of houses in the area, so there is that kind of dual interest of what was going on at the time behind the people in the photograph.”

She also says they’re looking for more information on the Best family, as wel as the people they’ve photographed.

“A lot of them don’t have any information on the back, and it’s 900 photos,” she says.

“So there are a lot of faces to identify.”

The photographs were taken in the late 1800s to mid 1900s, when the Best family lived in the area.

Allain says they’re scanning photos and adding them to Facebook to see if anyone is recognized.

To view the photos, check out the Mahone Bay Facebook page.
