Winter Prep Tips For Our Trapped Snowbirds

The first snowy morning, waking up to some white on the ground and below zero temperatures. Not a big deal for most of us, it is November after all, but what about those that are usually not here to feel the cold or see the snow? On top of everything else this year has halted, stopped or adjusted, we also have our snowbirds trapped in Canada as the winter weather begins.

I have been talking with a few folks that are generally in Florida by now and hearing them say how cold it is. All I was thinking as I heard this was, “wait till we hit minus 18 degrees plus a wind chill”.

This morning I was greeted by a frozen lock and the car doors frozen shut. I know most people have auto start or remote locks but for those of us that don’t, WD40 is your friend. Or even cooking spray can work wonders.

On top of that, make sure the actual lock has lubricant, in it to prevent freezing.

I know better than to let these things go and I still ended up climbing in through the passenger door this morning to get to work. Those of you not used to having to worry about winterizing vehicles and houses for cold weather, here are a few tips I hope will help make a winter stuck in the north bearable.
