The Chester Minor Hockey Association is looking for money to reimburse parents for travel time.
The Association approached the municipality for funds to help ease the financial burden incurred by parents driving to other arenas after the rink closed in January.
Warden Allen Webber says they’ll consider the request during budget discussions in the coming weeks.
“It was simply referred to the budget process,” he says. “There wasn’t a need to deal with it immediately.”
Despite that, Webber says he understands why some parents found this season hard.
“The costs associated with minor hockey in particular continue to increase. We need to do what we can to make it possible for young people continue to enjoy the sport.”
Association officials want to offer families $50 each to help offset cost of extra travel.
The idea is to encourage families to enroll in next year’s hockey programs.
Repairs at the Chester rink are expected to be complete before the end of next season.
