Jan Arden’s 1994 album Living Under June, her second studio album. And this next song was the biggest hit on the album, arguably one of the biggest hits she’s ever done, called “Insensitive.”
This song was written by Anne Laurie from Edmonton, Alberta, and it’s in response to an unhappy chef at a Calgary restaurant. Laurie was waiting tables, and she said, quote:
“I sat down at my electric piano in the basement of a rented house I shared with four roommates, broke and brokenhearted, full of pain and a gust, and wrote ‘Insensitive.’ It took less than an hour.”
Jan Arden then wanted to record the song after hearing Anne Laurie perform it at a local club.
This went to number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and also did extremely well here in Canada, going to number one on the RPM chart.
Here’s “Insensitive.”
