CRA Scam on the Rise

It’s an alarming call.

A message from Canada Revenue Agency claiming charges will be filed if you don’t pay up in 24 hours.

Corporal Ted Mugford from the Lunenburg RCMP says complaints of the scam are on the rise.

“My advice to people who get those phone calls is to ignore them,” he says, “don’t give them any money, and to notify the police in the local jurisdiction.”

Mugford says the calls are not new, but they’ve been receiving more reports then usual over the last few days.

He believes tax season has brought out scammers playing on vulnerable people worried about money this time of year.
