Straight Pipe Solution Project Delayed

Progress on a project to deal with straight pipes along the LaHave River has slowed in the Municipality of Lunenburg.

The municipality has been seeking federal money to help eligible homeowners upgrade their system and prevent sewage from being poured into the river.

An education an awareness campaign has been going on for several weeks.

The goal was to let people know that there is money available to help get the ball rolling.

However, project approval has been delayed.

Mayor Don Downe says councillors have a number of questions.

“‘Is the only problem in the Lahave river the straight pipes?’”is on of the questions being asked, he says. “‘If it’s other areas what are we going to do about that? If it involves other jurisdictions what’s going on there?’”

An upcoming workshop in the next few weeks is expected to answer those questions.

Downe says he’d like to see the project start as soon as possible.
