Former Toronto mayor and city councillor Rob Ford has died of cancer at age 46 according to multiple reports.
The controversial politician, who admitted abusing alcohol and drugs while in office, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer about 18 months ago.
Toronto mayor John Tory has expressed sadness and says his thoughts are with Ford’s wife Renata and their two children along with the rest of his family.
Tory described Ford as a man who spoke his mind and had deep convictions.
Tory said Ford would often reach out to citizens directly with a phone call by offering advice or support and had a gregarious nature and approach to public service.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
