Updated: Man, 41, dies after shooting in Amherst, N.S.

A 41-year-old man is dead after a shooting in Amherst, Nova Scotia.

Police say it was just before 7 p.m., Monday, when they got a call about a loud bang heard on Prince Arthur Street.

The man was reportedly walking down the roadway but started to run when a dark-colored Subaru SUV pulled up behind him.

Someone got out of the car and shot him in the lower back with what appeared to be a long gun.

The suspects drove away after the man fell to the ground.

The town says Police considered using an emergency alert, but it did not meet criteria, however, patients at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre were asked to stay in a safe area.

It happened very closely to a local homeless shelter who says they are “deeply impacted” by the incident and are working closely with police on the matter.

The province’s major crimes is investigating alongside other agencies including the medical examiner’s office.
