The preliminary inquiry for a Chester Basin man charged with first degree murder has begun.
Twenty-three-year-old John ‘Jack’ Buckley stands accused of killing his mother in 2012.
He was originally charged with second degree murder shortly after the incident.
However, after nine months in custody, Buckley was released due to insufficient evidence.
Last year prosecution announced new evidence had come to light.
The preliminary inquiry is their opportunity to prove to the judge there’s enough to move forward.
The proceedings began Wednesday and are expected to continue until next Thursday.
