Amalgamation may not be on the horizon but shared services between municipalities is on the rise.
The Region of Queens recently entered into two agreements with the Municipality of Shelburne and the Town of Lunenburg.
One of those contracts is for a back-up building inspector.
Mayor David Dagley says it’s a way to prevent the loss of valuable time and money.
“That is a great improvement,” he says, “and it indicates that we’re recognizing that delays are undesirable for anyone who is building.”
He says municipalities are always looking for ways to improve services at a decreased cost.
“There are current efforts among our CAOs to look at what works for each municipal unit and specifically for us. If there’s something is there that works for the Region of Queens then we’ll consider whether we buy in.”
Dagley says they don’t have a huge appetite for new services but he’s happy to see communities working together.
