Bridgewater Tech Start-Up Determined To Succeed In The South Shore

A local medical technology company has just received an infusion of cash.

Neck Tronics is building a new device that will allow easier assessment and treatment of neck injuries such as whiplash.

They’ve been awarded up to $202,000 in funding from the National Research Council of Canada.

Bill Smith, CEO of Neck Tronics is determined to build his company in the South Shore.

“I think that sometimes we’re missing the boat on rural Nova Scotia. We think that it has to be done in Halifax, New York or Toronto but we can do just as good a job here in rural Nova Scotia as anywhere else.”

Smith knows what happens when an area doesn’t provide opportunity for young people.

“I’m not from here originally. I grew up in Newfoundland in an area that was pretty much decimated by a group of young, smart people leaving to go all over the world to work.”

Smith recently opened an office on King Street in Bridgewater and already employees four engineers and 2 office staff.

He already has $100,000 in private investment and hopes to raise a total of $500,000 by this summer.

Neck Tronics is securing the patents on their product and expect it to be on the market by this time next year.
