A scary start to a Wednesday morning for one New Germany family.
Around 10 am firefighters were called to a home on Highway 208 to help put out a kitchen fire.
Arthur Jensen, Deputy Chief of the Hemford Fire Department says everyone was able to make it out of the house safe and sound.
“The mother and her four kids were at home,” he says. “She was actually putting one of them on the bed when she got into trouble.”
Jensen says they were even able to save a pet turtle.
He says the house is still intact with a fair bit of smoke damage in the kitchen.
It took about an hour for crews to clear the scene.
