Town of Antigonish launches rain barrel incentive to save water

The town of Antigonish is launching a new Rain Barrel Rebate Pilot Program to help residents save water and support long-term conservation efforts, especially during dry summer months.

The program offers a $50 rebate per household toward the purchase of a rain barrel, on a first-come, first-served basis. Funding is limited, with $2,500 allocated in the 2026-27 budget.

To qualify for the rebate, applicants must own or rent property in the Town of Antigonish and have purchased a new rain barrel after April 1, 2026.

The town says anyone interested will need to fill out an application in person at Town Hall that includes a copy of the original receipt. Once approved, rebates will be issued by cheque or e-transer.

They say by collecting rainwater, households will reduce their reliance on the municipal water supplies when water conservation measures are anticipated.
