Nova Scotia MLA Becky Druhan has officially joined the Liberal Party.
She made the announcement on the South Shore Monday morning.
“This decision is about how I can best serve Lunenburg West and Nova Scotia,” said Druhan in a news release.
“I believe the Liberal team shares my commitment to thoughtful, forward-looking leadership that delivers accountable government, strong public services, and economic opportunity.”
Official Opposition Leader, Claudia Chender, said in a statement, “When MLA Druhan left the PC Cabinet and Caucus over issues in leadership, we applauded her decision. Today she has made the step to join the Liberal Caucus and we wish her well.”
Druhan added that she appreciates the leadership of both lain Rankin and Derek Mombourquette. She said she values how they listen, collaborate and focus on moving Nova Scotia forward, and she wants to be part of rebuilding the party. They lost several seats to the Progressive Conservatives (PCs) in the last election. But her joining the party brings them up from two seats to three.
Druhan was first elected in 2021 as the Progressive Conservative (PC) MLA for Lunenburg West.
She previously served as minister of education and later as justice minister and attorney general under the PC government, but left the party in October, citing differences in principle with party leadership.
