Ivy Mae Cecilia (LeGay) Getson passed away on May 8, 2026, at Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home in Halifax.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carvel Getson; her brothers, Percy, Patrick, and James LeGay; and her sisters, Doreen, Shirley, Helen, Margaret, Marjorie, and Grace; her sister-in-law and dear friend Barbara Hayward who she shared many special years with.

She is survived by her three daughters, Charlotte (Jim) Mitchell, Catharine (Harry) Haslett, and Jacqueline (Mark) Savage; her brother, Leon LeGay; her grandchildren, Christopher(Jamie), Candace (Travis), Rebecca (Kyle), and Nicholas (Serena); and her great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Madison, Davyn, Samara, Kai, Kaysen, and Maria. She is also remembered by extended family and friends.

Mom enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends. Baking was one of Mom’s ways of showing her love, and there were always sweets available for those who stopped by. Her superpower was multitasking in the kitchen, often preparing several things at once with ease.  She also loved her gardens and attending dances at the Old Colony Club with Dad.

Mom loved visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would often be seen tucking money into their pockets for treats. 

We will miss her tremendously, but we will find comfort in remembering and carrying on the traditions we shared with her.

The love and compassion shown by the staff at Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home will not be forgotten. Even under the current circumstances in long-term care, they provided tremendous care and support during Mom’s final days, for which the family is deeply grateful.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater.

A family graveside service will take place at a later date.
