Ottawa man killed in Highway 103 crash near Clearland

A 65-year-old Ottawa man has died following a multi-vehicle collision in Lunenburg County.

RCMP say the crash happened at approximately 3:30 p.m. on June 6 in a construction zone on Highway 103 near Clearland.

According to investigators, a Dodge Ram travelling westbound entered an area where traffic had been stopped due to single-lane access controlled by temporary traffic lights.

Police say the pickup truck struck a Toyota RAV4 before colliding with a Jeep Cherokee. A fourth vehicle sustained minor damage.

The driver of the Toyota, a 65-year-old man from Ottawa, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 64-year-old Ottawa woman who was a passenger in the vehicle was transported to hospital by EHS LifeFlight with life-threatening injuries.

No other serious injuries were reported.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is continuing with assistance from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.

Highway 103 was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene but has since reopened.

Police also thanked bystanders who stopped to assist following the collision.
