District Of Lunenburg Welcomes Off-Highway Vehicle Pilot Project

New Germany is one of nine communities being considered for a new pilot project allowing off-highway vehicles access to roads that will link trails together.

The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg welcomes the news.

Trails and Open Space Coordinator, Laura Barkhouse, says it will improve recreational opportunity in the New Germany area.

“Come up with very managed ways to get off-highway vehicles for trail connectivity or to access goods and services in a managed, safe way.”

The pilot project is also being looked at in Milton, Queens County.

Barkhouse says the move could help impact tourism and economic development.

She also believes the decision will support drivers physical and mental well being.

The pilot projects are slated to begin in early fall.
