The chief of the Blockhouse Fire Department says common sense should prevail when people choose when to have a fire.
A number of woods and brush fires were reported over the long weekend in Lunenburg and Queens counties, despite burning restrictions being in place by the Department of Natural Resources.
Burning is only allowed between the hours of 7 p.m and 8 a.m right now in the South Shore and Tri-Counties.
Paula MacDonald says people have to pay attention to the risks.
“If it isn’t a necessity, please try not to burn. Things are drier already than usual and the top layer is burning really, really fast and can get away quickly.”
The province’s Burn Safe website is updated at 2 p.m daily.
