Plans Coming Together For Summer Tall Ships Visit

Lunenburgers got their first look at the plans around this summer’s tall ships visit.

Around 60 people showed up at the Fisheries Museum last night to hear how organizers will contend with providing washrooms, parking, transit and food for the six to seven thousand visitors they expect to see over the three days in August.

Many suggestions were put forward on how to deal with those large crowds.

Opportunities for residents to rent parking space on their properties and local restaurants offering their menu outside their normal establishments were two ideas that were floated.

The Lunenburg Board of Trade is hoping local businesses will work to compliment each other’s offerings as the event takes place.

Once the presentation was complete attendees were invited to ask questions or comment on the plans.

Museum Director Angela Saunders was impressed with the level of engagement.

“We’re very, very pleased with the turnout tonight, the number of people that are interested in the event and with the feedback that we’ve received. We’re very pleased with this tonight.”

The Tall Ships visit is part of the Rendez-Vous 2017 Regatta.

The event runs from August 10-12 in Lunenburg before it makes its way to Shelburne and Digby.
