Lawyer, Former Newspaper Owner Passes Away

A Mahone Bay man, considered by his former business partner to be a jack of all trades, has passed away.

Ralph Hennigar died this week.

He was a lawyer, town councillor, and school board member.

Derek Wells worked with Hennigar for several years at the former law office of Hennigar, Wells, Lamey and Baker.

Wells says Hennigar left his mark.

“He was a giant in the profession, he was a giant in the community with a larger than life personality. I know he hadn’t been well recently and I feel very sad that’s he’s passed. It’s an end of an era.”

Hennigar and his wife, Margaret also purchased the Lunenburg Progress Enterprise and Bridgewater Bulletin newspapers in 1968 and 1972, repectively.

The Hennigar family sold Lighthouse Publishing in 2015 after 47 years of ownership.

Wells says Hennigar was a bright man and ahead of his time on many issues including technology.
