Public Discuss Ways To Increase Activity At Queens Place

How do you see Queens Place Emera Centre operating in 2020?

That question was posed to roughly 60 people during the second community meeting about the facility.

Mayor Christopher Clarke says there is a desire to increase activity besides hockey and figure skating.

“To stretch out to different groups to get them to use Queens Place and think of Queens Place as the place to go as the hub of Queens.”

Clarke says people also discussed establishing an advisory committee for Queens Place.

Roughly 6,000 people live in Milton, Brooklyn and Liverpool and less than 10 per cent of them use the facility’s fitness centre.

Clarke says it’s a huge issue that also needs to change.

The facility has an operational deficit around $600,000.

There have been steps in the right direction including the sold out Beach Boys concert on June 30.
