NS Government Purchases Land From Greenfield Company

The Nova Scotia government has acquired 3,242 hectares of land throughout the South Shore and Annapolis Valley.

The land is in exchange for debt-owed by the Freeman and Son lumber company in Greenfield, Queens county.

It is worth $3.6-million.

The land is located in Kings, Lunenburg, Shelburne, Queens and Annapolis counties.

The Nova Scotia government did not say if the sale covers all of the debt owed.

The province has the lowest percentage of crown land among all other provinces except PEI.

Of the 5.3-million hectares of land in Nova Scotia, about one-third is owned by Nova Scotia compared to half to 90 percent in other provinces.
